| LARGE TREES AND PLANTS FOR INSTANT EFFECT.
We make available a great range of large trees and
plants not easily found locally and we arrange for them
to be delivered to you. For customers in the Bath area
we can usually provide visits by experienced staff to
help with advice, design and planting.
Customers outside the Bath area will find that delivery
charges often make orders below about £500 impractical.
Please ask for a QUOTATION
if in doubt.
WHAT KINDS OF PLANTS. Amongst the commonest requests
are large trees or bamboos for screening. We can usually
source Lombardy Poplars, Himalayan Birch or Flowering
Cherries in sizes over 3.5m (about 12ft) high. Often
customers want runs of hedging such as yews, edging
like lavender or simply a range of shrubs to rapidly
change the shape and feel of a garden. We source these
from known reliable nurseries and arrange for them to
be delivered to you.
You may know what you need, in which case please go
to QUOTATIONS. If not
please leave an email at ENQUIRIES
including your phone number and we will phone you back
to discuss your needs.
RECEIVING YOUR PLANTS AND AFTERCARE. Very large plants
generally need professional handling so that those in
pots over about 70litres are difficult for even a strong
person to move and plant. Within the Bath area we will
normally be able to offer this service but outside the
area you may need to ensure that you have help with
this. Delivery will normally be to the kerbside nearest
to your address but drivers are often prepared to move
plants by trolleys along paths at their own discretion.
Plants in pots will survive happily for years if they
are fed, watered and given shelter. Hardy plants will
tolerate cold weather although evergreens, which continue
to grow through the winter, may need watering if pots
freeze solid for long periods. Bare-root and rootballed
plants can be heeled into a temporary hole or trench
if ground conditions do not allow planting. In situations
where the ground is frozen or waterlogged bareroot plants
should be unwrapped on delivery, their roots soaked
in a bucket for an hour or so, and then re-packed and
stored in a cool shed or garage until planting conditions
improve.
It is important to remember that many trees in particular
die from drought during their first year after planting.
They must not be allowed to dry out completely, especially
during that vital first year, so you may feel that an
irrigation system would be worthwhile.
