IVY SCREENS FOR GARDENS AND DEVELOPMENTS
|
These evergreen IVY SCREENS provide an instant and
effective solution to a huge range of problems.
They are a selected form of ivy grown on rigid galvanised mesh to give ivy panels. Not only are they much more attractive than traditional fencing, they also improve with time. They can work as ivy fence panels, as evergreen hedges, as cladding or as security barriers
They have been in gardens at the Chelsea Flower Show which have won one bronze medal, four silver gilts and two gold medals. In 2009 they featured in the garden which won the President's award. In every other RHS show where these ivy panels have appeared they have been in gardens winning silver gilt medals.
In commercial and industrial situations they can -
-
provide screening
-
break up large spaces to provide structure
-
screen and clad buildings and structures
-
provide small, attractive enclosures such as smoking shelters
-
give a valuable wildlife habitat
We can supply the design back-up for sophisticated installations. There is a minimum order of three screens.
Tthey are equally useful in domestic gardens.

Newly installed ivy screens

Ivy screens installed for 18 months
We supply ivy screens in lightweight, biodegradable troughs
for planting directly into shallow trenches. They will grow like normal plants (though the screens will need attaching to posts or walls). The troughs will degrade over time and the roots will grow into the soil. Ivy is tough and can stand more shade and drought that most plants but will still need aftercare.
They can be planted into freestanding troughs on
a hard surface but will need to be
effectively watered and fed. They will also need supporting in
windy locations

Ivy screen as delivered in degradable trough
DETAILS. Ivy screens supplied by IMPACT PLANTS are grown on very sturdy 5mm hot galvanised
steel mesh. They are difficult to cut except using bolt cutters and are therefore excellent
for security purposes. Their surface is largely covered with native ivy, variety Woerner, and should
soon become completely covered. Ivy is a very hardy plant, and one of the most adaptable,
thriving in most conditions as long as it is not allowed to dry out after planting. As delivered
the plants will be trained around the screen and growing in a biodegradable trough which can
be put straight into a prepared trench in the ground. The trench should be at least 12in
(300mm) deep and wide. Some compost and slow release fertiliser around the troughs mixed
in with the soil will help the plants to establish.
The most frequently used ivy screens are 1.8m (6ft) high and are usually used like fence panels attached to posts. We recommend that the
screens are attached to 4in (100mm) wooden or recycled plastic fence posts bought locally. As the screens are
4ft (1.2m) wide and the posts are 4in wide the total width of a panel, brackets and post is around 54in (1.36m), allowing for some spacing next to the post. To calculate the number of
panels for a straight run of fencing simply divide the total length in metres by 1.36. For 52m
of fencing in a straight line you would therefore need 38 panels and 39 fence posts (one extra
to start the run). We supply galvanised brackets to attach the ivy panels to posts.
Ivy screens 1m high or 2.2m high are also available
We can also supply galvanised mesh panels 2m high by 1.2m wide to add to the tops of the screens to give additional height but,
of course, you would have to wait for the ivy to grow to the top of these . They can
be cut to give intermediate heights.
Panels can also be attached to walls and can be used to clad walls using sophisticated watering systems. Prices of more sophisticated projects can be quoted for at QUOTATIONS.

Ivy screens, like all plants, are susceptible to drying out. Ivy, of course, is very tough but still should not be allowed to dry out completely. Evergreen screens in troughs may also be damaged by prolonged freezing in winter. Evergreens need water all year round and frozen roots may not be able to provide it so they may need extra attention.
