Berberis darwinii

Darwins Barberry hedging

Darwins Barberry is an evergreen character of the Berberis family and it has lovely colourful bunches of orange/yellow nodding flowers that hold onto red stems in spring with small, dark green, prickly leaves.

Berberis Darwinii, or also known as Darwins Barberry, is an evegreen shrub and hedging plant that will suit almost any garden type and provide year round colour and interest. Darwins Barberry has small dark green prickly leaves and with bunches of yellow and orange 'nodding' flowers that hold onto red stems, it certainly stands out from the crowd. Their leaves are very similar to Holly leaves.

This attractive shrub is also a hit with wildlife as blue and purple berries are produced around autumn time and sometimes you are treated to a second flourish of flowers. The main features to Berberis Darwinii we would say is its spring colour and it's spiky leaves that will keep intruders at bay. Berberis is the ideal intruder proof hedge, view our range of Intruder Proof Hedging here.

Other evergreen Berberis varieties we stock are Berberis Stenophllya and Berberis julianae.
