Berberis thunbergii ‘Admiration’ is a compact, hardy and easy-to-grow deciduous shrub with superb colour and dense foliage. The bright coral-red leaves with golden margins deepen further still in autumn. Small yellow or pink flowers in spring are followed later by crimson berries.  A small shrub, with only around 50cm height and spread, it is best in full sun or partial shade for vibrancy but adapts well to grow in any location and soil, as long as free-draining.

Berberis thunbergii 'Admiration' is a popular Japanese Barberry and winner of the distinguished Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society. This highly colourful, adaptable and easy-to-grow dwarf shrub features dense, brilliantly coloured coral-red leaves that are edged in gold. The vibrant colour lasts throughout summer and intensifies in autumn.  Small yellow flowers can sometimes be produced in spring or early summer, followed in autumn by crimson berries.

Berberis thunbergii 'Admiration's striking foliage can add a burst of eye-catching colour to beds and borders and add contrast and warmth to planting. Plant singly as a centrepiece or in groups for a greater impact, or even or pop it in a pot to brighten up the patio!

To ensure the brightest colour from your Berberis 'Admiration', plant or position in full sun, although it will tolerate partial shade. In shadier spots, there will be less development of colour with leaves being greener.

This low-growing deciduous shrub is very hardy and will grow well in most locations and soils as long as they are free draining. Being extremely slow-growing and tolerant of most conditions, once planted, Berberis thunbergii 'Admiration' will happily look after itself. Pruning if any, should be carried out after flowering.

This slow-growing and no fuss shrub will require very little pruning if any at all. If a tidy-up is needed, carry out any trimming after flowering.
