Popular with wildlife enthusiasts, the RHS award-winning Buddleia ‘Royal Red’ Butterfly Bush features large magenta flower spikes, sweetly fragrant, between July and September/October which attract beneficial pollinators, including many butterfly species to the garden. This fast-growing, bushy, deciduous shrub has long lance-like green leaves, paler underneath, is perfect for a sunny bed or border and thrives in most soil types. Growth can be up to 2.5m after 5-10 years. Considered very low maintenance, hardy and easy to grow. Drought resistant.
Deadhead spent blooms in summer to encourage further flower production. Hard prune the plant in March back to three or four buds. This will encourage healthy growth and abundant flower production in the summer.
