Carex Testacea 'Prairie Fire'

Carex Testacea 'Prairie Fire'

From £7.49

Carex testacea 'Prairie Fire' originates in New Zealand where it's more commonly known as a form of New Zealand Sedge grass. With slender, arching fronds creating a mound-like shape, this colourful ornamental grass has a combination of green and bright copper-orange foliage which gives it its name.

Best grown in full sun or partial shade, Carex Prairie Fire will grow well in any free-draining soil. However, whilst it is considered frost-hardy, it will benefit from some protection in winter in colder areas. Winter is also the best time to remove any dead foliage from the heart of the plant to keep it looking its best.

This colourful Carex grass can be planted along pathways, borders, gravel gardens or in rockeries but will look equally impressive in a trough, planter or pot to add a pop of colour to your outside space.

Carex Prairie Fire is an evergreen grass with tall-growing flower spikes emerging between July and August. It not only makes a striking addition to the summer garden where the sun intensifies the fiery colouration, but equally brings warmth and colour to the winter garden making this a popular choice of grass. Although evergreen, it is also classed as a perennial due to it becoming dormant over winter. Creating architectural interest and movement, this bright Carex grass is suitable for pots and planters or punctuating borders, gravel gardens and rockeries.
