    Cercis canadensis 'Forest Pansy'

    From £70.00

'Forest Pansy' is a dramatic small tree grown for its beautiful foliage. Its glorious heart-shaped leaves emerge a glossy and vibrant ruby-red darkening to a rich plum shade for the summer. In autumn they progress to striking shades of orange, red, yellow and purple. Commonly known as North American redbud tree, its height and spread in 10 years reaches 2 x 2 metres. It is suited to all soil types and best positioned in full sun or partial shade.

This North American Redbud will grow in a bushy, rounded form, appealing in all seasons for its magnificent foliage. The autumn sun makes some of the colourful leaves appear to be translucent and others reflect the light. Plant in a position where the sun can backlight the foliage for full effect.

'Forest Pansy' performs best in moderately fertile, well-drained soil.

Whilst this tree will produce the best flowers when postitioned in full sun, part-shade is best in hot summer climates.

    Planting Advice

Our single stem, pot grown 'Forest Pansy' trees can be planted all year-round. To aid the trees growth more effectively, sprinkle root grow when planting. Here are some tips for planting your redbud tree:

    1. Dig a square hole as deep as your root mass and approximately 2x as wide
    2. Mix 50% of the original soil with 50% compost
    3. Place the roots of the tree into the hole, fill it with your soil mix and firm around gently (avoid banking the collar of the tree)

    Aftercare Advice

Once planted, keep the area free of competing weeds and grass for the first couple of growing seasons.

    • If planting in spring or summer, water well for the first few months and increase watering if there are periods of hot or dry weather.
    • If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little.

If your area is prone to rabbits, use a rabbit guard.

    Pruning Advice

Cercis Forest Pansy trees grow with multiple leaders rather than one clear leader. For the best overall shape, allow this to occur naturally.

    • Remove badly positioned or damaged branches
    • Careful not to cut down any leaders

Hard pruning should occur after flowering, in spring/summer time.

Light pruning should be carried out in winter
