Elder (Sambucus nigra) has many features making this a very popular hedging plant. Elder is native, deciduous and fast growing making it suitable for mixed hedging or you can plant as a single species.

Elder (Sambucus nigra) is a wonderful hedging plant to choose to bring heaps of features to your garden. This hedging plant flowers in June and July with large, creamy white flowers which are then followed by elderberries, these are very high in Vitamin C which can be used in the kitchen. Another interesting feature of Elder is that it is a rabbit deterrent as they don't favour the Elder scent.

You can plant this variety of hedging alone or plant with other Native Hedging Plants to create your very own mixed native hedge.
