    Lavandula angustifolia 'Munstead' hedging

    From £4.99

English Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia 'Munstead' ) is a lovely, fragrant evergreen plant that is most commonly used as compact hedges in contemporary design or planted as a shrub in traditional cottage displays.

English Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia 'Munstead') is your quintessential lavender hedging plant and it was the basis of the England's lavender oil industry in the 1700's. Its recognisable smell makes it a traditional English cottage garden favourite. English Lavender 'Munstead' has a softer and relatively pale shade of purple flowers, with a lighter colour of foliage compared to Hidcote Lavender

This hedging plant is perfect for low, informal hedging borders or it can be planted as a single shrub and still provide a burst of colour and fragrance to your garden. It is also a hit with bee's so keep an eye out for them come summer.

English Lavender with its more subtle sweet fragrance also has many culinary uses, adding an aromatic twist to honey, biscuits, cakes and even cocktails!

Lavender is very easy to cultivate but the key to its longevity is pruning. This should be done as soon as the flowers start to fade in August - they can handle a hard pruning and we recommend removing one third of the plant, not just the flower spikes. Small shoots will grow a further 5cm before the plants start to go dormant in September, giving them a lush, tidy appearance through Winter. This makes your Lavender hedge pruning routine vital for the appearance of your Lavender hedge in winter. Alternatively, you can leave the spent flower heads on the plants until spring because in winter, when food for birds is scarce, birds will come to feed on the seeds - goldfinches in particular! Plants might eventually become wooded and straggly so it is best to replace a hedge after about 20 years though this is not always necessary.

    1. Select Root Type

    Bare Root

Bare roots are young plants that are only planted when they are dormant, from November to March (weather dependant). We lift bare root plants and despatch them during the planting season but they can be pre-ordered in summer to guarantee your stock. As they are cheaper to grow, they are one of our most affordable hedge planting options and the cheapest way to plant a hedge.

    Root Ball

Root ball plants are also seasonal stock as they can only be lifted when they are dormant, from November to March (weather dependant). These plants are scooped out of the ground like an ice-cream using machinery to keep their root system intact and wrapped in bio-degradable, hessian sacks.  They are mature plants that provide dense coverage very early on, ideal for when you need a thick hedge quickly. Root ball hedging plants give an instant effect and are a cheaper alternative to instant trough grown hedging.

    Pot Grown

Pot grown plants can be planted year round and they are our mose convenient option of hedging plants. They come in a wide range of sizes, from 10cm to 2.5m so they're suitable for the majority of planting requirements. From small 2L shrubs to large 15L extra tall hedging, there will be a pot grown plant for any garden type.

    Instant Hedging

Our Instant Hedging is grown in troughs or bags that measure 50cm-1 metre in length and carefully clipped during the growing season to create a dramatic, instant hedge effect. If you are looking for a quick fix or an instant impact, Instant Trough Grown hedging is the solution for you.
