Hydrangea 'Little Lime'

From £14.99

Hydrangea paniculata ‘Little Lime’ is the more compact and hardier version of beautiful Hydrangea ‘Limelight’. However, its compact size doesn’t stop it making a big impression. Hydrangea ‘Little Lime’ produces large, conical domes of lime-green flowers in summer that fade to a pale cream and then develop warm pink tones as the season progresses. The large flower clusters are borne on strong, upright stems creating a stunning display. Dark green, ovate pointed leaves provide a wonderful contrasting backdrop for the vibrant flower colours and the foliage takes on a sunny yellow colour in autumn for additional seasonal colour.

Hydrangea ‘Little Lime’ is a hardy and colourful shrub and will even tolerate a north-facing border. It is a highly productive plant for its size and grows to a height and spread of 1.5 metres making it perfect for fitting into smaller landscapes and limited space, offering a wealth of colour and seasonal variety. Hydrangea ‘Little Lime’ can even be container grown as long as it has enough water. The gorgeous flowers also make a superb addition to dried flower arrangements.

Plant Hydrangea ‘Little Lime’ in full sun or partial shade for the best flowering results. Well-drained soil is essential to prevent against root rot. Hydrangea paniculata shrubs prefer loamy, clay or sandy soil types that are non-alkaline. The flowers of Hydrangea ‘Little Lime’ will develop on the current years’ growth and are both reliable and plentiful making this a popular choice.

Pruning of your Hydrangea ‘Little Lime’ should take place in late winter or early spring. Hydrangea ‘Little Lime’ blooms on new wood so vigorously cutting back the previous season’s shoots to within a few buds of the main woody framework, will encourage new, healthy and strong stems and an abundance of new flower buds.

If you have chosen to grow your Hydrangea ‘Little Lime’ in a container, ensure that there is plenty of water as pots dry out quicker. If your Hydrangea’s leaves start to wilt, this is a sign that it needs more water. Soil that includes organic matter such as compost will enrich your shrub. Powdery mildew can occasionally appear on the foliage of your shrub, which can easily be treated with fungicide. Once treated, be sure to rake up and destroy any fallen foliage.
