Hydrangea paniculata 'Silver Dollar'

Hydrangea paniculata 'Silver Dollar'

From £17.99

Hydrangea paniculata ‘Silver Dollar’ is a wonderful shrub, particularly appealing for its cone-shaped clusters of white flowers which stand proud of the deep-green leaves and turn soft pink tones as they age. Hydrangea ‘Silver Dollar’ has strong, upright stems that hold its large flower clusters well for a magnificent flower display. Growing to a height and spread of 1.5 metres, this small, deciduous shrub is a striking stand-alone plant whilst also contributing wonderful, long-lasting colour to a flowering shrub border in a garden or patio.

Winner of RHS Award of Garden Merit, Hydrangea paniculata ‘Silver Dollar’ is a superb variety of hydrangea that produces elegant, cone-shaped flower clusters. The large-petaled flowers emerge light green maturing to a soft white. As the season progresses, the flowers develop a pink blush, painting your garden with the first signs of autumn. These lightly fragranced flowers have prominent appeal in the garden and can also be used to make wonderful dried flower arrangements.

Hydrangea ‘Silver Dollar’ has deep-green, oval pointed leaves that complement its light-coloured flowers. The conical flower clusters are supported by strong, upright stems and dance above the dense foliage creating an overall rounded shape. Growing to a height and spread of just 1.5, ‘Silver Dollar’ is a more compact Hydrangea and is therefore suitable for smaller gardens and as a specimen plant. Alone, Hydrangea ‘Silver Dollar’ offers a great deal of visual appeal throughout the year. It also compliments other Hydrangeas well as a key contributor to a beautiful flower border, adding delightful late colouring to the mix.

Panicle hydrangeas like ‘Silver Dollar’ are the most cold-hardy of the hydrangeas and can handle UK climate exposure, however late frosts can be damaging to new growth therefore we suggest planting near a protective wall or in a sheltered position where possible. Hydrangea ‘Silver Dollar’ prefers a sunny or semi-shaded position in a moist but well-drained soil. Suitable for all soil types except alkaline.

Hydrangea ‘Silver Dollar’ is a fast-growing shrub that can be pruned right back in early spring, cutting back the shoots from the previous season to improve the shape of the plant. Your Hydrangea ‘Silver Dollar’ should not be pruned until the new buds swell in spring to protect them from frost damage through winter.

Water your Hydrangea ‘Silver Dollar’ regularly until you have a fully established shrub and particularly in summer. This shrub can experience leaf spot, powdery mildew and grey mould and can attract aphids and capsid bugs, but all are easily treatable.
