    Laburnum × watereri 'Vossii'

    From £70.00

Long racemes of magnificent bright yellow flowers hang from the branches of Laburnum x watereri 'Vossii' in May and June. It is commonly called the Golden Chain tree for this magnificent display. The flowers are highly scented and popular with bees and other wildlife. Foliage is light-green giving a bright backdrop for the luminous flowers. These circular leaves are particularly attractive when sunlight filters through them. This tree is best suited positioned in full sun, planted in any soil type. In 10 years, Laburnum x watereri 'Vossii' will have grown to a height of 4 metres and spread of 3 metres.

Laburnum x watereri 'Vossii' generally grows as a tree but can also be pruned to form a hedge. Its rounded shape is sometimes used to create a laburnum walk - an arch of Laburnums held up on a trellis structure.

Golden Chain trees is a hardy flowering tree and will tolerale cold and inland exposure provided it is position in a sun and the soil it grows in is well drained.

Note: every part of this tree is toxic to humans and animals when ingested, especially the seed pods.

    Planting Advice

Our single stem, pot grown Golden Chain trees can be planted all year-round. To aid the trees growth more effectively, sprinkle root grow when planting. Here are some tips for planting your Laburnum tree:

    1. Dig a square hole as deep as your root mass and approximately 2x as wide
    2. Mix 50% of the original soil with 50% compost
    3. Place the roots of the tree into the hole, fill it with your soil mix and firm around gently (avoid banking the collar of the tree)

Due to the toxicity of Voss’s Laburnum, we recommend avoiding planting near a pond as it could potentially affect wildlife in the water.

    Aftercare Advice

Once planted, keep the area free of competing weeds and grass for the first couple of growing seasons

    • If planting in spring or summer, water well for the first few months and increase watering if there are periods of hot or dry weather.
    • If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little.

If your area is prone to rabbits, use a rabbit guard.

Note, it is quite common for Laburnum trees to flower well one year and then not so well the next, and then back to a good year again
