Planting Advice

Our single stem, pot grown Crab Apple trees can be planted all year-round. To aid the trees growth more effectively, sprinkle root grow when planting. Here are some tips for planting your Malus tree:

  1. Dig a square hole as deep as your root mass and approximately 2x as wide
  2. Mix 50% of the original soil with 50% compost
  3. Place the roots of the tree into the hole, fill it with your soil mix and firm around gently (avoid banking the collar of the tree)

Aftercare Advice

Once planted, keep the area free of competing weeds and grass for the first couple of growing seasons.

  • If planting in spring or summer, water well for the first few months and increase watering if there are periods of hot or dry weather.
  • If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little.

If your area is prone to rabbits, use a rabbit guard.

Pruning Advice

Malus Jelly King does not need hard pruning.

  • Remove dead and damaged branches
  • Remove shoots at the base of the tree

Prune in winter.

You should not trim the tips of crab apple branches.
