Miscanthus sinensis. 'Strictus'

Miscanthus sinensis. 'Strictus'

From £9.99

This deciduous perennial is a garden favourite for its unusual characteristics adding structure, colour and overall visual interest. At maturity it can reach up to 2.5m tall with a spread of around 50-100cm.

Ideally Miscanthus 'Strictus' should be grown in full sun, although it will tolerate some dappled shade, and will grow best in moist but well-drained soil. In early spring tidy up the plant by removing dead foliage or spent flower stems.

Miscanthus 'Strictus' is the ideal grass for border planting as its spiky form and unusual colouration of foliage and flowers will add lots of visual interest especially against colourful herbaceous perennials, plus its size lends itself well to planting in. It makes a statement in any garden and is certainly one of the most eye-catching ornamental grasses.

Miscanthus sinensis 'Strictus' is sometimes known as Porcupine Grass for the way in which it resembles the quills of the porcupine, being fairly erect and spiky. This striking ornamental grass has long, green, upright stems bearing leaves which are horizontally cross-banded with pale yellow giving it a stripey quality when viewed from a distance. In autumn it develops silvery flower plumes which can reach up to 2m tall. The flowers are long-lasting and can also be used for dried flower arrangements.
