Pittosporum ‘Golf Ball’ is named for its dense, compact foliage that naturally forms a spherical shape. This attractive evergreen shrub features pale-green glossy oval leaves on contrasting black stems with small purple-brown flowers developing in spring. Best suited to a sunny or partially-shaded location, Pittosporum ‘Golf Ball’ is an excellent choice for borders, pairing with grasses or for pots and planters. It is also a popular alternative to Box topiary for ease of shaping. Height and spread up to 1m.

Pittosporum tenuifolium ‘Golf Ball’ is a very compact, bushy evergreen shrub that features pale jade-green ovate shiny leaves and as its name suggests, naturally grows in a rounded, globe-like shape. The fresh green of the leaves is an attractive contrast to the dramatic black stems. In spring, fairly inconspicuous purple-brown flowers emerge.

Pittosporum ‘Golf Ball’ is a versatile, low-growing, decorative shrub that will provide year-round architectural interest in the garden.  In beds and borders its rounded form and dense foliage looks striking against accompanying planting such as ornamental grasses or create an undulating cloud effect by planting in multiples along a border edge. Alternatively, grow as a specimen in a pot on the patio or in a gravel garden as a single or multiple focal point. Pittosporum ‘Golf Ball’ can also be topiarised and is an excellent alternative to Box.

This exceptionally easy-to-grow shrub will do best in a moist, well-drained soil except for heavier soils with a clay base. It prefers a sunny or partially shaded position and needs little pruning at all to achieve a uniform shape. Considered semi-hardy it may need protection from frosts and strong winds and is suited to a more sheltered location. Max height and spread is 1m.

Pittosporum ‘Golf Ball’ is very easy to grow and maintain, needing little pruning if any to achieve a lovely shape. Simply trim to shape if needed in spring after flowering. Do not trim over winter as this could be damaging to the plant.

If required, remove any damaged or diseased branches and lightly trim foliage to maintain your chosen size and shape.  Add a good few centimetres of compost or manure around the base of the plant to encourage good, healthy growth.
