    Prunus Amanogawa

    From £70.00

Prunus 'Amanogawa' is a distinctive tree with elevated branches and pale pink cherry blossom. The large dense clusters of light pink flowers have a pleasant and subtle fragrance in spring. Bronzed green foliage turns to mid-green in the summer and then bursts into orange and red colours later in the year for an autumnal display. The common name for this prunus is Japanese Cherry Amanogawa. Japanese Cherry trees are suited to all soil types and prefer a position in full sunlight. In 10 years, 'Amanogawa will be a height and spread of 4 x 1 metres.

Prunus 'Amanogawa' has the full package; it is both beautiful and tolerant of pollutions, perfect for urban areas. It will do well in most soils and if planted in a sunny position, this eye-catching tree will not disappoint.

Ideal for smaller spaces, the narrow form will grow to a height and spread of just 6 x 2 metres in 20 years.

    Planting Advice

Our single stem, pot grown Amanogawa Japanese Cherry trees can be planted all year-round. Choose a location away from strong winds to protect the blossom display and remove weeds and grass within a metre radius. To aid the trees growth more effectively, sprinkle root grow when planting. Here are some tips for planting your cherry tree:

    1. Dig a square hole as deep as your root mass and approximately 2x as wide
    2. Mix 50% of the original soil with 50% compost
    3. Place the roots of the tree into the hole, fill it with your soil mix and firm around gently (avoid banking the collar of the tree)

    Aftercare Advice

Once planted, keep the area free of competing weeds and grass for the first couple of growing seasons.

    • If planting in spring or summer, water well for the first few months and increase watering if there are periods of hot or dry weather.
    • If planting in autumn, you may only need to water a little.

If your area is prone to rabbits, use a rabbit guard.

    Pruning Advice

Although it is possible to leave young Amanogawa Cherry trees to their own devices, carrying out formative pruning for the first few year will create a more balanced branch framework. It will then require less maintenance in future.

    • Prune after flowering i.e. after the petals have dropped but before the new shoot growth appears.
    • After two to three years, you will only need to remove occasional damaged or unwanted branches.
